採煙、練り混み、型入れ、型出し、乾燥まで、墨が完成までには最低でも一年を要します。

煤の中に含まれた空気を抜くために、乳鉢に入れてよく練った後、ゆっくりと湯煎して溶かした膠液を少しずつ加えて、煤の中に練り込んでいきます。（上質な膠ほどゆっくりと時間をかけて溶解しなければなりません。）

すすと膠をできるかぎり均一に混合し、緻密な墨玉を作リます。1番厳しい力作業となる体力を消耗する工程です。

通常はニーダーと呼ばれる機械を使用しますが、墨工房 紀州松煙では、一つひとつ手作業で丁寧に作られています。

It takes at least one year to complete the process, from smoke collection to kneading, molding, unmolding, and drying.

In order to remove all the air contained in the soot, it is kneaded in a mortar adding a slowly dissolved Nikawa glue in boiling water, little by little. The higher the quality of Nikawa glue, slower must be its melting process. 

Soot and glue are mixed as evenly as possible to produce dense sumi balls.  This is the most demanding and physically exhausting process.

A kneader machine is usually used, but here, each piece is carefully handcrafted.
